Bathroom Renovation and Bathroom Remodeling in Ankara

By renewing the plumbing and waterproofing behind the visible surfaces as well, we create bright, practical bathrooms that will not cause you trouble for years.

Overview

The real quality of a bathroom lies not in the colour of the tiles but inside the walls and floor. If old, corroded pipes are left behind new tiles, a few years later they come back as a stain on your downstairs neighbour’s ceiling. That is why, in every bathroom renovation in Ankara, we first look at the condition of the plumbing and waterproofing, and build the decoration on a sound foundation.

For 20 years, Çayyolu Architecture & Construction has been renovating apartment and villa bathrooms in Ankara. During a bathroom remodel, strip-out, plumbing, waterproofing, tiling, sanitaryware, shower enclosure, cabinets and lighting are handled by one team with single-point responsibility. If you are thinking of renovating your bathroom, you can send photos of its current state via WhatsApp or request a free on-site survey.

A Closer Look

Can New Tiles Be Laid Over Old Tiles?

Although it is technically possible, in most cases we do not recommend it. Unless the plumbing behind the existing tiles is renewed, any leak stays hidden behind the new finish, and when the problem grows, twice the demolition is needed. Also, because the finish becomes thicker, mismatches can arise at door, skirting and drain levels.

In limited cases, where the plumbing is new, the existing tiles are firmly bonded and only a change of look is wanted, tiling over tiles with a suitable adhesive and primer can be considered. We do not make this decision without an on-site inspection.

02

Should the Plumbing Be Replaced in a Bathroom Renovation?

If your building is old or your bathroom has never been fully renovated, the answer is usually yes. Old galvanised pipes rust from the inside over time, reduce water pressure and increase the risk of leaks. Since the bathroom is being stripped out anyway, this is the best time to renew the plumbing.

  • If water pressure has dropped or the water runs brown
  • If there are damp stains downstairs or blistering on the ceiling
  • If drains block often or give off bad smells
  • If the bathroom layout is going to change

Tips for Making Small Bathrooms Feel Spacious

In narrow bathrooms, a flush-to-floor shower instead of a bathtub, a glass shower enclosure, a wall-hung toilet and a wall-hung vanity unit keep the floor visible and make the room feel larger. Large-format, light-coloured tiles, recessed niche shelves and well-planned lighting also noticeably increase the sense of space.

In windowless bathrooms, ventilation needs to be addressed separately. Poor ventilation will, over time, wear down even the finest materials with mould and darkened grout. We check the existing extractor duct and, if needed, replace the fan with a quieter, more efficient one.

In bathrooms used by elderly family members or young children, planning a level-access shower, a non-slip floor, grab bars and a wide enough circulation space makes the bathroom not only beautiful but also safe. We discuss these needs during the site survey and include them in the design from the start.

In a bathroom renovation, can new tiles be laid over the old ones?

It is possible in limited cases, but we generally do not recommend it. Old plumbing and potential leaks stay hidden underneath. We decide after an on-site inspection.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

The duration depends on the size of the bathroom and the extent of the plumbing changes. After the site survey, we give you a clear work schedule and tell you exactly how long the bathroom will be out of use.

How much does a bathroom renovation cost?

The price depends on the size of the bathroom, the scope of plumbing and waterproofing, and the grade of tiles, sanitaryware and fittings chosen. After a free site visit, we prepare a clear, itemised quotation.

Should the plumbing also be replaced in a bathroom renovation?

We recommend replacing it in older buildings and in bathrooms where the plumbing has not been renewed before. Renewing the plumbing while the bathroom is stripped out removes the risk of future leaks and having to break everything open a second time.

Can we use the other bathroom in the house during the renovation?

Yes. When planning the plumbing connections, we keep the other wet rooms usable with as little interruption as possible, and we let you know in advance about the short periods when the main valve has to be shut off.

Do we need to inform the building management about a bathroom renovation in an apartment block?

Because strip-out and demolition are noisy, the common areas are used to carry materials and the shared water valve may need to be shut off, we recommend informing the management and your neighbours in advance. We plan working hours according to the rules of the complex or building, protect the common areas and leave them clean every day.
