Waterproofing and Insulation Works in Ankara

From damp in the basement to leaks on the terrace, and from drips in the car park to heat loss through the roof, we protect your building against water and cold.

Overview

Water is a building’s most patient enemy. Over the years, a small leak rusts the reinforcement in the concrete, makes plaster bubble, and leads to mould and unpleasant odours. Properly applied waterproofing, however, stops this process from the outset. Given Ankara’s harsh winters and rainy seasons, insulation is not a luxury but a fundamental need that protects the life of the building.

Çayyolu Architecture & Construction carries out foundation, basement, terrace, car park, wall and roof insulation for detached homes, apartment buildings and residential complexes in Ankara. With 20 years of field experience, we first identify where and how the water is getting in, and then recommend the insulation system suited to that surface and its conditions of use. Rather than simply covering the problem with paint, we aim to solve it at the source.

If you see damp stains, bubbling plaster or dripping in your home or building, do not wait; the more the damage grows, the wider the scope of the repair becomes. You can send photos of the problem area on WhatsApp and book an appointment for a free site visit.

Our Services

Our Insulation Services

01

Foundation insulation

In new buildings we apply insulation to the foundations and basement walls; in existing buildings we excavate and apply full-wrap foundation tanking.

Foundation tanking →

02

Basement and wall waterproofing

On basement walls in contact with the soil, we eliminate damp and leaks using the appropriate method, from the inside or the outside.

03

Terrace waterproofing

On terraces and balconies, we rework the falls, drains and details to prevent water pooling and leaking into the floor below.

04

Car park waterproofing

In enclosed car parks, we assess drips from the ceiling and walls together with the garden or road layer above.

05

Roof thermal insulation and waterproofing

We install systems in the roof layers that prevent heat loss and water ingress.

Roof renewal →

06

Wet area waterproofing

In bathroom and kitchen renovations, we apply complete waterproofing beneath the tiles.

A Closer Look

What Causes Damp in a Basement, and How Is It Fixed?

There are three main causes of damp in a basement: water in the soil being forced in through the walls under pressure, moisture rising from the ground by capillary action, and condensation caused by poor ventilation. Each has a different solution. Trying to fix condensation with insulation material does not work, and water coming from the soil cannot be stopped by a coat of paint applied only to the inner surface.

That is why, during the survey, we examine the walls, the floor, the drainage situation and the ventilation together. If necessary, we recommend drainage improvements around the building, insulation from the outer surface, or negative-side systems. We explain clearly which method we have chosen and why.

02

Working with Building and Complex Managements

Areas such as terraces, roofs, car parks and foundations are usually common areas. The decision on insulating these areas is not a matter for a single apartment, but for the building or complex management and the unit owners. We run the process together with the management as follows:

  • At the management’s request, we survey the problem areas and explain the cause in a report with photos
  • We prepare a quote with a clear scope and options that can be presented at the unit owners’ meeting
  • Once the decision is made, we plan the work schedule and its impact on car park and entrance use in a form that can be announced to residents
  • Throughout the work, we share regular updates with the management through a single point of contact
  • On handover, we provide the management with written details of the system applied and maintenance recommendations

03

How Is Terrace Waterproofing Done?

Successful terrace waterproofing starts with the falls, before the materials. If water pools on the surface, the waterproofing will come under strain over time, whatever material is used. The condition of the existing finish, the falls, the drains, and the parapet and wall junction details are examined; if necessary, the finish is removed and the waterproofing layer is rebuilt from scratch. After application, we carry out a water test and check together that the leak has been eliminated. The lifespan of the waterproofing depends on the system used, the quality of application and regular maintenance.

Our Process

How We Work

01

Free survey and diagnosis

We examine the source of the water, its path and the areas it affects on site.

02

Recommended method and clear quote

We explain the insulation system suited to the surface, with our reasons, and present our quote with a clear scope.

03

Management approval and planning

We support the decision-making process for common areas and prepare the work schedule in a form that can be shared with residents.

04

Surface preparation

We remove the old finish and loose layers, and repair the falls and details.

05

Insulation application

We apply the chosen system in full, including junctions, drains and corner details.

06

Water test and handover

We test the work, complete the protection and finish layers, and hand over with maintenance recommendations.

What causes damp in a basement, and how is it fixed?

Damp may be caused by water pressing in from the soil, capillary rise from the ground or condensation. We first identify the cause and then recommend the appropriate method, such as drainage or insulation from the outside or inside.

How is terrace waterproofing done?

The falls, drains and junction details are examined; if necessary, the finish is removed and the waterproofing layer is rebuilt. A water test is carried out after application.

How many years does waterproofing last?

Durability depends on the system used, the condition of the surface, the quality of application and maintenance. In our quote, we clearly state the characteristics of the recommended system and its maintenance needs.

Whose decision is needed for insulating common areas?

For common areas such as terraces, roofs, car parks and foundations, the decision is made by the building or complex management and the assembly of unit owners. We prepare the report and quote that can be used at the meeting.

What determines the price of insulation?

It varies according to the size of the area to be insulated, the condition of the surface, whether any finish needs to be removed and the system chosen. We provide a clear quote after the survey.
