Tell us about your kitchen project in Çayyolu

When we walk into a kitchen in Çayyolu, the first thing we look at is not the colour of the cabinets but the age of the building. In the district’s first cooperative-built complexes, kitchens were planned in the spirit of their time: enclosed, narrow and cut off from the living room. In newer blocks, the shell is solid, but the developer-standard cabinets handed over rarely suit the owners’ habits. That is why we start work on kitchen cabinets and kitchen design in Çayyolu not with a ready-made catalogue, but inside your kitchen, with a tape measure.

Çayyolu Architecture & Construction has its office in the Konutkent neighbourhood, right in the heart of Çayyolu. With 20 years of experience, we run cabinet production, worktops, built-in appliance layout, plumbing, electrics and ventilation on the same work schedule. Whether you are considering a full kitchen renovation in Çayyolu or just new doors and worktops, the person who comes to the site survey and the team that follows the job on site stay the same.

What We Focus On in Çayyolu Kitchens

The variety of housing in the district means a different starting point for every kitchen; these are the topics we work on most often.

    01

Opening an enclosed kitchen to the living room

This is the most frequent request in cooperative-built flats. If the wall in between is load-bearing, the decision is made on the basis of a licensed engineer’s assessment and structural calculation; if not, we resolve the opening with a counter or a breakfast bar.

    02

    Floor-to-ceiling storage in narrow kitchens

In narrow single-wall or galley kitchens, we reclaim lost space with cabinets reaching the ceiling, corner fittings and drawer-based base units.

    03

Islands and pantries in villa kitchens

In semi-detached and detached houses with gardens, we plan the island unit, the pantry cupboard and a breakfast corner overlooking the garden as one layout.

    04

    Made-to-measure cabinet production

In older buildings where the walls are not perfectly square, we work without leaving gaps by using cabinets made to measurements taken on site rather than ready-made modules.

    05

Worktop, sink and built-in appliance layout

We choose the worktop material to suit how you cook, and place the oven, hob and dishwasher where they will not disrupt the flow of work.

    06

    Plumbing, ventilation and lighting

We renew ageing water pipes before the cabinets go in, and set the cooker hood outlet and under-cabinet lighting from the very first sketch of the design.

    A Closer Look

Open-Plan Kitchen Conversions in Cooperative-Built Flats

In Çayyolu’s first complexes, the kitchen was usually drawn as a separate room near the entrance, with a window but no connection to the living room. Today, families who buy these homes or have lived in them for years want to be in the same space as everyone in the living room while they cook. An open-plan kitchen conversion is a good solution here, but the first question is always the same: is the wall to be removed load-bearing?

This question cannot be answered by eye. If the wall is part of the load-bearing system, no work is done without a licensed engineer’s assessment and a structural calculation; the knowledge of the flat owners and building management, and the necessary permit procedures, are also settled at this stage. If the wall is not load-bearing, we can resolve the opening with a breakfast bar, a peninsula or a glass divider. Because cooking smells and steam reach the living room more easily in an open kitchen, we address the cooker hood’s capacity and air outlet together with the conversion decision.

    • Confirming through an engineering assessment whether the wall is load-bearing
    • Choosing a bar, peninsula or island to suit the opening
    • A ventilation plan for smells and steam spreading to the living room
    • Renewing the flooring together with the living room

    02

Kitchen Cabinet Styles in Çayyolu: L-Shaped and Galley Layouts for Narrow Kitchens

In the district’s older complex flats, the kitchen is usually a long, narrow room. At these dimensions, the most efficient layout is often an L-shape or a galley. In an L-shaped layout, the corner is put to use for pots and pans with carousel or pull-out corner fittings, while the short leg can be given over to a prep worktop in front of the window. In a galley layout, one wall is devoted to cooking and the sink, the opposite wall to tall cabinets, the fridge and a built-in oven column, with the aisle between kept wide enough for two people to work at once.

When choosing styles during the kitchen design process in Çayyolu, we prioritise solutions that make a narrow kitchen look wider. Handleless doors with a gola profile remove the projections that catch hips and elbows in corridor-like kitchens, while light-toned, simple modern doors reflect the light and make the space feel airy. In the larger kitchens of semi-detached and detached houses with gardens, a U-shaped layout or an island with framed doors in a classic or country style can also work well.

    • L-shaped or galley layouts for narrow kitchens
    • Handleless doors and gola profiles for a projection-free passage
    • Dead corners put to use with corner fittings
    • U-shaped layouts, islands and framed doors in villa kitchens

Doors, Carcasses and Worktops: Choosing Materials and What Affects the Price

The main factors that determine the price of kitchen cabinets in Çayyolu are the total running length of the cabinets, the type of door, internal hardware such as runners, hinges and pantry mechanisms, the type and thickness of the worktop, the built-in appliances, and the extent of the strip-out of the old kitchen and changes to the services. In the district’s older buildings, the plumbing and wiring item is often more decisive than in new buildings, which is why we show every item on a separate line in our quotation.

The look of a kitchen cabinet is determined by its doors, while its lifespan depends largely on the carcass and hardware. At the site survey we put samples side by side and explain how each material behaves in everyday use:

    • Lacquered doors: give a silky, deep look; they need careful use to avoid knocks and scratches.
    • Acrylic doors: their glossy surface reflects light and wipes clean easily; they make a narrow kitchen look airy.
    • Membrane (vinyl-wrapped) doors: their edges can be shaped, suiting a classic style; they need care near hob and oven steam.
    • Laminate doors: durable and economical; they stand out in busy family kitchens.
    • Carcass: we use moisture-resistant board under the sink and around the dishwasher.
    • Worktop: quartz composite is stain-resistant and easy to maintain; granite and natural stone are heat-resistant but need surface care; compact laminate is a slim-profile, economical option.

The Hidden Work in Gas, Water and Electrics

In older buildings, the most critical part of a kitchen renovation is what stays behind the cabinets. Aged or patched pipes, sockets fed from a single circuit and a gas line that falls short when the hob is moved determine the lifespan of the new kitchen. That is why, after the strip-out, we look at the exposed services and decide together with you what needs to be renewed.

If the position of the hob or combi boiler connection is changing, any change to the natural gas line is designed and carried out only by a licensed firm, and the line is not put into service without the approval of the gas distribution company. We have separate circuits run by a licensed electrician for high-power appliances such as built-in ovens, hobs and dishwashers, and where necessary we include electrical rewiring in the kitchen work.

A Kitchen Project Close to Our Office

For jobs in Çayyolu, we can schedule measuring, the worktop template and installation days at short intervals. Choosing door colours, worktop textures and handles face to face from the samples in our office is far more reliable than making decisions on a screen. If the carcasses of your existing cabinets are sound, it is also possible to balance the budget by renewing only the doors, worktop and lighting; we discuss this option openly at the site survey.

For an initial consultation, you can call 0312 240 51 51, send photos of your kitchen via WhatsApp or fill in the form at the bottom of the page. If you would like to think about your Çayyolu kitchen design decisions together with the rest of the home, you can also take a look at our home decoration in Çayyolu page; during a kitchen remodel in Çayyolu we keep harmony with the living room in mind from the start.

    Our Process

The Kitchen Renovation Process in Çayyolu

    01

    Site survey and measuring

We measure your kitchen on site and record how square the walls are, the service points and the window position.

    02

    Technical drawings and visualisation

We prepare the layout plan, cabinet elevations and 3D visuals; if a wall is to be removed, the engineer’s assessment, and if the gas line is to change, the licensed firm’s process, are planned at this stage.

    03

    Samples and material approval

We examine door, carcass, worktop and handle samples together at our office and confirm the choices in writing.

    04

    Production follow-up

While the cabinets are being made to measure, we tie the strip-out and service preparation to the same schedule as production.

    05

    Installation and worktop template

The carcasses are installed, the worktop template is taken on site, and the worktop is made to this template and fitted.

    06

    Door adjustment and handover

Doors and drawers are adjusted, the built-in appliance connections are checked, and the kitchen is handed over.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can’t find the answer you are looking for? Give us a call — we will listen to your project and answer your questions right away.

    0312 240 51 51
Can we open the kitchen to the living room in my older complex flat in Çayyolu?

Often yes, but the decision depends on whether the wall is load-bearing. No work is done on a load-bearing wall without a licensed engineer’s assessment and a structural calculation; if it is not load-bearing, we can create an open-plan kitchen with a breakfast bar or peninsula. We examine the wall during the site survey and inform you clearly.

What is needed to move the hob?

If the hob runs on natural gas, extending or moving the line is done by a licensed gas firm and put into service with the approval of the gas distribution company. For electric hobs, a separate circuit with a cable of adequate cross-section must be run by a licensed electrician.

Is it possible to renovate the kitchen without replacing the cabinets?

If the carcasses are sound and the dimensions are suitable, renewing the doors, handles, worktop and lighting changes the look of the kitchen dramatically. For carcasses that have swollen from moisture or have damaged hinge fixings, we recommend new ones.

What determines the price of a kitchen renovation in Çayyolu?

The price depends on the size of the kitchen, the cabinet and worktop materials, the internal hardware, the built-in appliances and the extent of changes to the services. After the free site visit, we prepare a written quotation comparing the options side by side.

Is lacquer or acrylic better for our narrow kitchen in Çayyolu?

Both reflect light well in a narrow kitchen. Acrylic is practical for heavy use, with its glossy surface and easy cleaning; lacquer offers a silkier, deeper look but needs careful use to avoid knocks and scratches. For homes with children where cooking is frequent, we usually recommend acrylic or laminate, and lacquer for kitchens with calmer use.

Are measurements taken only once, and when is the worktop measured?

Cabinet measurements are taken at the site survey, and the final measurements are checked again after the strip-out, when the walls are exposed. The worktop template is taken after the carcasses are installed, so that uneven walls in older buildings do not leave gaps along the worktop.

What do you do if the doors shift out of alignment after installation?

Door and drawer adjustments are made one by one at handover. During use, small shifts can occur as hinges and runners naturally settle; all you need to do is let us know. Because our office is in the district, we schedule an adjustment visit at short notice.
